USW amended Indian entry requirements as from 10th December 2020

I want to make you aware of some changes we implemented to our entry criteria for India, effective from 10 th December 2020.

The University received some intelligence from the UKVI recently and as a result, we now can only consider waiving IELTS in lieu of the 12 th Standard English mark if the qualification has been completed within a certain number of years.

The decision to implement these changes has not been taken lightly and the our main aim is to ensure that we mitigate the risk of the student receiving a visa rejection. All students whose applications were processed before 10 th December, their offers will be honoured with the previous entry requirements.

This does not affect applicants who have studied Central and some state boards where 65% is still considered (no time cap has been introduced) as detailed below.

  1. CBSE
  2. CISCE
  3. Karnataka Board of the Pre-University Education
  4. Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board 
  5. Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education
  6. West Bengal Board of Secondary Education
  7. West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education

Details of the other boards affected by this change are as follows:

Kerala – 65% in 12 th Standard English

  • Undergraduate and foundation courses – applicants must have completed their 12 th  within 2 years of submitting their application to USW.
  • Undergraduate courses (advanced entry) – applicants must have completed their diploma within 3 years of submitting their application to USW.
  • Postgraduate courses – applicants must have completed their Bachelor’s degree within 3 years of submitting their application to USW.

Gujarat – 70% in 12 th   Standard English

  • Undergraduate and foundation courses – applicants must have completed their 12 th   within 2 years of submitting their application to USW
  • Undergraduate courses (advanced entry) – applicants must have completed their diploma within 3 years of submitting their application to USW
  • Postgraduate courses – applicants must have completed their Bachelor’s degree within 3 years of submitting their application to USW

Tamil Nadu – 70 %  in 12 th Standard English in a school in one of the following major cities:

  • Chennai
  • Coimbatore
  • Madurai
  • Tiruchirappalli
    • Undergraduate and foundation courses – applicants must have completed their 12 th   within 2 years of submitting their application to USW
    • Undergraduate courses (advanced entry) – applicants must have completed their diploma within 3 years of submitting their application to USW
    • Postgraduate courses – applicants must have completed their Bachelor’s degree within 3 years of submitting their application to USW

Excluded state boards we do not accept either as evidence of academic suitability or English language competency:

  • Bihar School Examination Board
  • Bihar Intermediate Education Council
  • Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education
  • Haryana Board of Education
  • J&K State Board of School Education
  • Jharkhand Academic Council
  • Punjab School of Education Board

Other Indian state boards – 70% in 12 th   Standard English
